Mindset: what examiners want
At B1, examiners are usually looking for:
- you can describe everyday situations
- you can narrate simple events (past + present)
- you can express opinions with basic connectors
- your pronunciation is understandable
You don’t need fancy vocabulary. You need control.
A simple answer structure
For most prompts, use this 4-part structure:
- Answer directly (one sentence)
- Give 1–2 details
- Give an example (real or invented)
- Close with a final sentence

Prompt 1: Describe your daily routine
Sample answer (B1):
Di solito mi sveglio alle sette e faccio colazione. Poi lavoro fino al pomeriggio. La sera mi piace cucinare e guardare una serie. Nel fine settimana esco con gli amici oppure faccio sport. In generale cerco di rilassarmi e di dormire bene.
Prompt 2: Talk about a trip you took
Sample answer (B1):
L’anno scorso sono andato/a in Italia con la mia famiglia. Abbiamo visitato Roma e Firenze. Mi è piaciuta molto la cucina e ho parlato un po’ di italiano nei ristoranti. Per esempio ho chiesto informazioni e ho ordinato da mangiare. In conclusione è stato un viaggio bellissimo.
Prompt 3: A service situation (doctor/pharmacy)
Sample answer (B1):
Quando non mi sento bene, di solito vado dal medico o in farmacia. Spiego i sintomi e chiedo un consiglio. Per esempio posso dire: “Ho mal di testa” oppure “Ho la febbre”. Poi seguo le indicazioni e prendo la medicina. È importante anche bere acqua e riposare.
Prompt 4: Opinion (simple)
Sample answer (B1):
Secondo me imparare l’italiano è molto utile perché posso comunicare meglio e conoscere la cultura. Inoltre mi aiuta quando viaggio e quando devo fare pratiche. Per esempio posso parlare con le persone e capire meglio quello che succede. In conclusione penso che studiare ogni giorno sia la cosa migliore.
Verb/tenses you should control
For B1 speaking, you should be comfortable with:
- present
- passato prossimo (essere vs avere)
- imperfetto for habits/background
- basic future (and “going to” style with stare per or voglio)
Tip: write answers, then speak them aloud. You’re training your mouth as much as your brain.
